About the Artist

Artist Statement:
My art is greatly influenced by my fascination with nature- all of it. Changing colors with each season, composition, intuitive companion colors and texture. My art reflects what I perceive even in the simplest moments or in found objects, seeing significance and powerful connections all around.  My hope is for the viewer to pause, breathe and discover their own story in my art.

Bio:

Mary Trosien is a storyteller using mixed media paintings as her medium of choice. She is inspired by the beauty of nature- its rich variety of colors, texture, and complex composition. Her style of art, abstract realism, is influenced by seeing the deeper significance in simple moments and things found in nature. Her choice of bold colors and collage are intended to evoke attention and opportunity for the viewer to stop and explore their own story in what they see. Her art evokes joy, light, and endless possibilities.  With her mixed media collage art, she discovered that each painting reflected her belief that even in our brokenness we can transform ourselves into something beautiful and new.

Mary has been an artist of various mediums most of her life, but recently pursued as a full time professional artist in 2022 after retiring from a 30 year career in nursing.

Mary Trosien currently lives in Chesapeake, VA with her husband Dave, dog- Luna and thirteen chickens (which all have names).  She has one daughter living in Raleigh NC. Mary is also a Chesapeake Master Gardener volunteer and involved in various garden projects in the city.  She is a graduate of the Milan Mastery Program in September 2023.

She is a recepient of the Ellen B McKinnon Memorial Award given at the CBAA 60th Annual Ocean View Art Show in Norfolk, VA in October 2024.  This award recognizes emerging artists.
